When a fire breaks out in the home, the number one priority is to ensure the safety of you and your family. To do this you need to detect a fire as soon as possible and get you and your family out of the house. The most effective way to do this is by having the right Smoke Alarm fitted in the right location within your home.
Smoke Alarms come in two categories, Ionisation and Photoelectric and can be either 9v battery operated or 240v hard wired.
Ionisation Smoke Alarms – This type of smoke Alarm detects invisible particles of combustion that for example, may occur from cooking or from an oil heater. They respond quickly to fast flaming fires that produce very little visible smoke. Ionisation smoke alarms are not recommended for kitchens because of the high propensity for nuisance alarms.
Photoelectric Smoke Alarms – This type of Smoke Alarm detects visible particles of combustion that for example, occur from overheated electrical wiring. They respond quickly to smouldering fires and dense smoke. Photoelectric Smoke Alarms are highly recommended for bedrooms where there is more likelihood of a smouldering fire. Photoelectric alarms should not be located in or near the bathroom or in a laundry where there is a tumble dryer because they are sensitive to steam and may cause nuisance alarms.
